For many the new year means making resolutions or changing bad habits or perhaps improving on their quality of life. I’ve learned, in my old age, to not make promises I can’t keep. So my New Year is a time to reflect on my previous year and my purpose for being here and doing what I do. What is my actual purpose in life and how do I validate my 2015 and my daily well being?
It’s my opinion, that the answer to the age old question “what is the meaning of life”?….is simple…..EVOLUTION….but that doesn’t mean I/we can’t contribute to the evolution of making this a better place. To accomplish that I usually recollect something fulfilling I’ve done for others or an organization that needed help.
I don’t mean fulfilling as in, “We made a huge financial contribution,”…. I mean fulfilling more in the context of a moment where you know your position in life means something. In my job, for example, its nice knowing that I can help by spreading the good word and getting others involved through 620 CKRM. Whether its the Regina Food Bank / Canadian Blood Services / Canadian Mental Health / Stars Air Ambulance / Canadian Cancer Society / or the Children’s Hospital Foundation…etc. (even the small towns that rely on their lotto’s to support community fundraising)
So, when I get a call or message from someone whose life was changed for the better because of my involvement, that’s my fulfilling moment. It’s important to make resolutions that encourage you to find fulfillment, not just personal quests.
From Donnie and I have a happy New Year!
