Members of the Saskatoon Police Service and the Saskatoon Fire Department are searching the South Saskatchewan River and its banks following a report of someone entering the water from the Broadway Bridge.
Police received at least two reports just before 9 o’clock Monday morning, about a woman was seen jumping from the bridge.
Dave Bykowy with the Saskatoon Fire Department says the Saskatoon Police plane is spotting from the sky and patrol members are helping comb the river banks.
MD Ambulance is on site. At this time, Bykowy says they have deployed their sonar equipment looking for a “submerged target”.
Bykowy says their system uses the same technology as a medical ultrasound by converting sound waves into a visual image on a computer.
Bykowy says their sonar is designed specifically for marine applications and as soon as they deploy it, the sonar starts to image everything right down to the bottom of the river.
