The Regina Police Service is warning residents to use caution on dating websites.
They say the majority of the sites are vulnerable to scam artists and over the years many victims have been scammed by mates they met online.
Police say the suspect can be very convincing and may persuade the victim to send hundreds of thousands of dollars overseas, sell their homes, cash in their life savings and still believe they will have a relationship with the suspect someday.
Police say to ignore people who contact you from hundreds of miles away, never send anyone money, and if you’re relationship seems like it’s moving too fast, you should slow it down.
If you are asked for money by someone you have met online, discuss your relationship with a friend, relative or the police.
