The town of Wadena in east-Central Saskatchewan is ready for this weekend’s Cameco “Hockey Day in Saskatchewan” festivities.
The weekend event, which actually started with some minor hockey games on Wednesday, will see several high profile games being played in the town on the weekend with the big one being a Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League game between the Notre Dame Hounds and Battleford Stars.
Cameco’s Jonathan Huntington says the aim of the weekend is to raise 80-thousand dollars for the town’s rink which is in need of repair.
A banquet will officially kick off the weekend Friday night with hockey happening all weekend long.
Huntington says many Cameco employees including president and CEO Tim Gitzel, who used to play in the SJHL, will be on hand for the events and to help work in the canteen.
