The YMCA of Regina has released the city’s Housing First Model in an attempt to fight homelessness.
Along with the release of the model, a call for proposal was announced to collect data from partnering agencies.
Blair Roberts is the Director of Homelessness Partnering and Residence at YMCA Regina.
He says there is a deadline of February 16 for proposals to come in and then they will work on implementing concrete plans.
Roberts says Regina’s Housing First proposal was built on the success and failures of other city’s models.
Housing First focusses on setting up homeless individuals in places to live.
The organization said this can create a better environment to address contributing issues like addiction and mental health.
In Regina, there were 232 homeless people in May 2015, based on the Point-in-Time Count of homelessness conducted last year.
