The province’s deputy medical health officer says the ZIKA virus is something they are monitoring, but they don’t believe it is something people should get too worried about.
Dr. Denise Werker says the advice being given to the province is the same being given by Health Canada when it comes to being wary of being in areas where the virus is prevalent. but she says there should be no worry about the mosquitoes which carry the virus coming to Saskatchewan because the climate is not conducive to them as it is too cold.
Werker says if you are pregnant, you should speak to medical officials before going so you know what you are up against and then make a final decision as to whether or not to travel.
She adds if you are pregnant and have travelled to a country where ZIKA is prevalent, it may be a good idea to visit the doctor to make sure everything is fine.
