A Regina family is warning others to avoid a Cuban resort where their vacation turned into a nightmare.
Kelly Morrison says the first few days of their trip were fine, but upon returning to their room on a Saturday morning they discovered money and jewellery had been stolen from the safe.
They reported that theft to staff and were interviewed by the hotel’s security, but Morrison says that interview was more like an interrogation as they didn’t believe their story.
The Morrisons were marched to their room for a search of their belongings and then were told to leave everything in their room including their passports and were moved to another room.
They were eventually told they could go back to their original room and regain their possessions if they withdrew their statement about a theft occurring.
Morrison contacted the Canadian embassy in Cuba and were told to retract their statement to get their belongings back.
Morrison says the Memories Resort in Cayo Santa Maria is definitely a place where they will never return.
