Yesterday in the mail we received a letter from Stats Canada addressed to “occupant” at our address. Looks like it’s survey time.
The letter starts “Statistics Canada is conducting the Labour Force Survey and your household has been selected to participate in this survey.” Selected? Wow! More than 32 million people in this great country and we were “selected.” The Lewis household, chosen by the government to help out our fellow countrymen! This is like winning the lottery, minus the cash of course!
An interviewer will contact us by phone and set up an interview time. Set up a time? Hey, how long is this thing going to take anyway? There is no way out of this. The letter informs us that interviewers are available work days, evenings, and weekends! There’ll be no hiding from this.
There will also be a “short” follow up survey that will need to be completed once a month for five months! Five months? You might as well move in!
I know what you’re thinking. I already checked on the letter. This is mandatory under the “Statistics Act.” I checked the website. There is a fine and possible jail time for those who fail to comply.
I do not want my wife going to jail, so I’ll set up an interview time for her and tell her it’s got to be done!
There, survey taken care of. Thank you honey!
