The Regina Pats won a back and forth battle with the Kootenay Ice on Friday night 7-5. Adam Brooks led the way with 6 points and took over the WHL scoring lead with 95 points.
In the first period the Pats powerplay got them on the board at 6:13. Connor Hobbs buried his 15th with assists to Sam Steel and Adam Brooks to make it 1-0. The Ice got that one back at 11:40 when Zak Zborosky scored into the top of the net from the right side for his 22nd from River Beattie and Matt Alfaro and it was 1-1. The Pats struck short handed after that to take the lead back. Adam Brooks had a puck go off his skate and in for his 32nd from Austin Wagner at 14:39 and it was 2-1. That was the score after 1 with the Pats leading on the shot clock 12-7.
In the second Kootenay tied the game again at 9:03. Shane Allan fed Zak Zborosky in front and he scored his second of the night and 23rd to make it a 2-2 game. The Pats took their lead back at 14:47 when Adam Brooks fired a shot form the slot for his 2nd of the night and 33rd from Jared McAmmond to make it 3-2. Again Kootenay tied it up at 18:28 when Shane Allan tipped a point shot for his 2nd from Jason Wenzel and it was 3-3. The Pats responded 41 seconds later when Chase Harrison’s poitn shot got through a maze of bodies and beat Hobbs for his 5th with assists to Adam Brooks and Austin Wagner and it was 4-3. That was the score after 2, the Pats outshot Kootenay 14-12 in the period and led 26-19 overall.
In the third the Ice powerplay tied it up again when Noah Philp scored an absolute beauty into the top of the net for his 5th at 9:38 and it was 4-4. The Pats powerplay got them the lead back at 13:09. Connor Hobbs with his second of the night from Cole Sanford and Sam Steel to make it 5-4. Hobbs completed his hattrick at 15:41 from Adam Brooks and James Hilsendager and it was 6-4. The Ice got a late powerplay and pulled the goalie for the 6 on 4 advantage and Tanner Lishchynsky potted his 5th at 19:28 to get Kootenay within 1. But Austin Wagner sealed it with his 22nd from Adam Brooks and Connor Hobbs at 19:55 to make it 7-5 and that was the final score. The shots on goal were 12-12 in the period and the Pats led overall 38-31 overall.
The Pats powerplay went 2 for 3 in the game and the penalty kill was 4 for 6 with a short handed goal.
The third star of the game went to the Ice Zak Zborosky who had two goals and an assist. The second star to the Pats Connor Hobbs who had 3 goals and an assist and the first star to Adam Brooks who scored twice and had 4 assists.
The Pats are back in action on Sunday when they host the Edmonton Oil Kings at the Brandt Centre at 4 o’clock on 620 CKRM.
