Saskatchewan’s Finance Minister Kevin Doherty says he’s not surprised by the federal government’s deficit announcement this morning.
The Liberal government has projected their deficit at about 18.4-billion dollars.
Doherty says a deficit makes sense considering the drop off in the country’s energy sector.
“That’s not a surprise to anyone in Saskatchewan. Certainly not a surprise to anyone in the province of Alberta or Newfoundland and Labrador, these three energy producing provinces, that have been hit significantly hard over these past 18 months with the drop in oil prices.”
The Saskatchewan government will be releasing its third quarter report next Monday, February 29.
The federal budget will be released on March 22.
