The Regina Pats outshot and outplayed the Prince Albert Raiders on Friday at the Brandt Centre but fell 3-1. Rylan Parenteau made 41 saves in the Raiders goal for the victory.
In the first period the Pats took an early penalty and the Raiders made them pay. Vojtech Budik finished a pass in front for his 3rd of the year from Sean Montgomery and Brendan Guhle at 1:55 and it was 1-0. The Pats responded after that and threw shot after shot at Rylan Parenteau but the Raider netminder stopped every one of them. The Pats had two powerplays in the frame but could not score and trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes. The Pats outshot P.A. 15-7 in the period.
In the second frame the Raiders picked up their second powerplay and seconds after it expired they extended their lead to 2-0. Jesse Lees buried his 19th from the slot at 6:44 with assists to Jordan Tkatch and Simon Stransky. The Pats had two powerplays after that but did not score but carried all the momentum in the final 10 minutes. Rylan Parenteau was fantastic in the frame to keep the Pats off the board. Regina got a third powerplay with 1:21 left in the period and came oh so close but the Raiders survived to the break with the 2-0 lead. The Pats outshot Prince Albert 15-10 in the period and led 30-17 overall.
The Pats began the third with 39 seconds of powerplay time but did not score. On their 5th powerplay of the night they did finally break through. Cole Sanford snapped home his 33rd from the right circle at 6:58. Adam Brooks and Chase Harrison the assists and it was a 2-1 game. Adam Brooks extended his point streak to 13 games and Cole Sanford to 10 games on the goal. The Pats kept pushing but Rylan Parenteau made save after save and then with 13 seconds left Reid Gardiner sealed it with an empty net goal for his 37th to make it 3-1 and that was the final score. The Pats win streak stops at 7 games. The Pats outshot the Raiders 12-8 in the period and 42-25 overall.
The Pats powerplay was 1 for 6 in the loss and the penalty kill was 3 for 4.
The third star of the game went to the Pats Cole Sanford who scored the lone goal. The second star to Adam Brooks who had an assist and the first star to the Raiders Rylan Parenteau who topped 41 of 42 shots faced.
The Pats are right back at it on Saturday night in Saskatoon against the Blades at 7:05 on 620 CKRM.
