The Regina Pats got off to a tough start on Saturday night and could not recover in a 5-2 road loss in Saskatoon.
In the first period the Pats got the games first powerplay in the early goings and Sam Steel had a great chance in tight on the left side but Brock Hamm stoned him with the pad to keep the game scoreless. After the PK the Blades too the lead at 8:17. Cameron Hausinger put home a rebound off the glove of Tyler Brown for his 6th unassisted to make it 1-0. Then at 9:36 Ryan Graham stole a puck at his own blueline and skate don a partial breakaway and scored on the back hand for his 17th to make it 2-0. The Blades got it to 3-0 on a weak backhand shot from Wyatt Sloboshan at 11:31 into the far side of the net and then Ryan Graham scored the exact same goal at 13:59 for his second of the night and 18th and it was 4-0 Blades. The Pats got one back at 13:59 when Chase Harrison scored his 7th on a rebound with assists to Rykr Cole and Austin Wagner and it was 4-1. That was the score after 1 period with the Pats leading on the shot clock 13-12.
In the second the Pats found their legs and threw 17 shots at Brock Hamm but he stopped every one of them. The Blades had the periods lonne powerplay which the Pats killed off and the game stayed 4-1 heading to the 3rd. The Pats outhsot the Blades 17-8 in the period and led 30-20 overall.
In the third the Pats continued to press but once again Brock Hamm stood tall. With 6 minutes left the Pats got a powerplay and then pulled Tyler Brown for the extra attacker. That’s when the Pats got within 2. Adam Brooks scored his 34th from the left circle at 15:43. Connor Hobbs and Sam Steel the assists and it was a 4-2 game. The Blades however added an empty netter at 18:34 when Ryan Graham completed his hattrick with his 19th and it was 5-2 and that was the final score. The Pats outshot the Blades 15-9 in the period and 45-29 overall.
The Pats powerplay was 1 for 3 in the loss and the penalty kill was 2 for 2.
The third star of the game went to the Blades Cameron Hausinger who had a goal in the win. The second star to Brock Hamm who made 43 saves on 45 Pats shots and the first star to Ryan Graham who had a hattrick.
The Pats return to action Monday morning when they host the Red Deer Rebels in a 11:30 AM puck drop at the Brandt Centre on 620 CKRM.
