Saskatoon’s Steve Laycock is 2-3 after Monday’s action in Ottawa at the Tim Hortons Brier.
The 2015 Brier bronze medallist looked to have things in control against Newfoundland’s Brad Gushue in the afternoon draw, but a 3 in 7 combined with a steal of 1 in 9 gave Gushue a 7-5 win.
Laycock bounced back to get what was considered a must win against Quebec’s Jean Michel Menard in the evening draw as he stole 3 in the 8th for a 7-3 win.
Laycock, who is trying to skip the first Saskatchewan rink to win the Brier since Rick Folk in 1980, will be on the ice against Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick on Tuesday.
Northern Ontario’s Brad Jacobs leads the way at 4-0.
