The Regina Pats outshot the Blades 49-20 on Wednesday night but had to come from behind to win their fourth straight game, 5-3 over Saskatoon.
In the first period the Pats picked up right where they left off on the weekend against the Moose Jaw Warriors. The had chance after chance but Brock Hamm looked really good in the opening period. The Blades had two powerplays in the frame but didn’t even record a shot. The Pats led on the shot clock 21-1 in the frame but the game was scoreless through 20 minutes.
In the second the Pats kept on pressing but it was the Blades who opened the scoring on their 3rd shot of the game. Mason McCarty got his 17th from the slot at 2:30 and it was 1-0. A line brawl broke ou after that and the Pats got the extra penalty. The Blades scored 19 seconds later when Wyatt Sloboshan put in a rebound for his 17th from Cameron Hebig and Connor Gay and it was 2-0 Saskatoon. The Pats didn’t fold however and kept throwing shots on goal and finally broke through on shot number 34. Colby Williams a great back door feed to Luc Smith who jammed in his 4th at 14:45 and it was 2-1. Then at 16:35 Adam Brooks drove wide on left wing and fired a shot into the top of the net for his 38th with assists to Chase Harrison and Sergey Zborovskiy and it was a 2-2 game. Right after that however a bad turnover ended up in the Pats goal. Ryan Graham finished it off with his 22nd from Braylon Shmyr at 16:35 and it was 3-2 Blades. That was the score after 2. The Pats outshot Saskatoon 18-10 in the period and led 39-11 overall.
In the third the Pats got the game even at 9:03. Rykr Cole took a puck out of skates at the left half wall and fired home his 12th of the year to tie the game 3-3. The assists to Jake Leschyshyn and Adam Berg. That line then gave the Pats the lead on their very next shift. Jake Leschyshyn put in a rebound for his 7th from Berg and Cole and it was 4-3 at 12:18. The Pats extended the lead to 5-3 on a 2 on 1. Lane Zablocki fed Austin Wagner who finished off his 27th at 16:12. The Blades pulled the goalie late but did not score and the Pats won their third straight game, 5-3 the final score. The Pats outshot the Blades 10-9 in the period and 49-20 overall.
The Pats powerplay was oh for 4 in the win while the penalty kill was 3 for 4.
The third star of the game went to the Blades Mason McCarty who scored in the loss. The second star to the Pats Rykr Cole who tied the game in the 3rd and assisted on the game winner and the first star to Jake Leschyshyn who scored the game winner and had an assist in the third.
The Pats are back in action on Friday when they host the Swift Current Broncos at the Brandt Centre at 7 o’clock on 620 CKRM.
