IRISH FACTS: Some facts about the Irish as we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day:
-Bailey’s Irish Cream is the original thing….. Bailey’s made it first…. and then everyone else just copied it and didn’t charge as much
-The White House in Washington is modeled after the Irish House of Parliament in Dublin…..although it doesn’t have an oval office…. apparently an office without any corners is a uniquely American idea
-a shillelagh is a walking stick…and they’re useful in Ireland because it’s always good to poke the ground in front of you to find the sink holes without stepping in them.
-The Irish call “Irish Whiskey” the “water of life”…… I think that’s how they refer to it at their AA meetings
-by kissing the Blarney Stone you acquire “the gift of the gab” …..as well as anything eles from the guy who kissed it before you had!
-this year there will be well over 200 St. Patrick’s Day parades in North America…. but only four in Ireland….. who want’s a parade when you can be drinking with your mates.
-almost 10 million pints of Ireland’s Guinness Beer are consumed each day…..although that number goes up on St. Patrick’s Day…..although it’s green so who can tell what it is.
