Dave Taylor and his U of R Cougar womens basketball tournament are coming home from the nationals in Fredricton with a 6th place finish.
The Cougars fell 74-73 to Canada West rival Alberta in the 5th place game Saturday afternoon.
Alberta’s Megan Byrne hit a three point shot to give the Pandas a two point lead with just seconds to play, but Charlotte Kot was fouled with three seconds to go giving Regina a chance to send the game into overtime.
Kot hit the first shot, but missed the second one to give Alberta the win.
The game was the last for three members of the team as they have exhausted their college eligibility—Regina’s Alyssia Kajati, Moose Jaw’s Kehlsie Crone and California’s Sidney Dobner.
The gold medal game on Sunday will feature the University of Saskatchewan Huskies going up against Ryerson.
