Yesterday morning I made my way out to Assiniboia for the first of nine trips to promote the Spring Fever Lotto. It felt like spring heading out yesterday morning, but it felt like anything but spring on the way home last night. I feel this morning won’t be much different.
I always enjoy the drive to and from Assiniboia, as long as the roads are in good shape. A couple of years ago we had a bad storm and travel wasn’t advised anywhere outside Regina city limits, but I hit the highway anyway and had no trouble at all. Whenever I’m driving in less than ideal conditions I always hear my dad in the back of my head saying, “don’t worry about what the speed limit is. Drive according to the conditions.” Hey, the old guy wasn’t so dumb after all. There just might be some validity in all of that advice that he spewed out all those years ago.
On the drive home last night the highway was great until a few miles out of Moose Jaw. Then I hit the #1 which wasn’t in the best of shape. You could still do close to the speed limit, but visibility wasn’t that great. There wasn’t much traffic to speak of. Apparently the smart people were putting off their travel plans. I was plodding along at just over 100 clicks in the right lane, while in the left lane, cars were passing me like I was standing still! Some people like to live dangerously.
I made it back in to the city safe and sound and just a little later than usual.
Today might be a little trickier, but the lotto beckons! If you don’t hear me live from Assiniboia shortly after 11, don’t worry. If you don’t hear from me way after 11, then start to worry. I might be in a ditch somewhere along the way!
