The Saskatoon Police Service says the design of the new Headquarters building in downtown Saskatoon has achieved Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) certification.
- An open concept design that maximizes the use of natural sunlight to reduce lighting loads and encourage healthy, productive and sustainable workspaces for employees.
- Heated underground parking for patrol vehicles eliminates the need for vehicles to remain running in the winter to keep equipment inside functioning, lessening the amount of greenhouse gas emissions.
The building’s multi-story design prevents sprawled development and results in system consolidation – if developed over a single storey, the building would have spanned the length of 4 football fields.
Traditionally, a building of this size would use 9 million litres of water per year. With water saving fixtures, the new Headquarters is 35% more water efficient, resulting in 5 million litres of water saved.
