The Regina Pats got three assist from Adam Brooks and 30 saves from Tyler Brown in a 3-2 win in game 3 on Tuesday night. With the win the Pats take a 2-1 series lead.
In the first period the Pats struggled to get the offense going. They gave up the games first powerplay but killed it off. The Hurricanes Carter Folk then laid an incredible dirty hit on the Pats Jared Freadrich. Freadrich had played the puck and Folk skated in, left his feet and hit him right in the head. Folk was given 5 and a game and the Pats went to the lengthy powerplay. However the man advantage really struggled and gave up a goal. Giorgio Estephan slid one 5-hole for his first of the series with the lone assist to Ben Duperreault at 7:21 and it was 1-0. The Pats got their first shot on goal over halfway through the frame and then started to find some chances. Austin Wagner was stopped on a breakaway and Sam Steel had a shot blocked in tight with an open cage to shoot at. The Hurricanes took the 1-0 lead to the break and led on the shot clock 13-5.
In the second the Pats started to find their game offensively and had some good chances but the Canes did a good job blocking shots and clearing away second opportunities. Lethbridge got into some penalty trouble late in the period and the Pats were able to tie it up with a 2 man advantage. Cole Sanford a one-time shot from the right side beat Stuart Skinner for his 1st of the playoffs from Sam Steel and Adam Brooks at 16:38 and it was 1-1. The Pats were able to kill off both Hurricanes powerplays in the frame and the game was tied after 40 minutes. The Pats outshot Lethbridge 8-7 in the period but trailed 20-13 overall.
In the third the Pats pressed hard and took the lead with the powerplay at 10:27. Sam Steel finished off a beautiful passing play for his second of the playoffs. Assists to Adam Brooks and James Hilsendager and it was a 2-1 game. The Pats then got it to 3-1 at 14:11. Adam Brooks chipped a puck past the pinching Arvin Atwal and led a rush on left wing. He then centered for Rykr Cole driving the net and he tipped in his 1st. James Hilsendager the second helper. The game stayed that way until the Pats went to the penalty kill and the Hurricanes pulled Skinner to go up 6 on 4. That’s when Andrew Nielsen got the Hurricanes within one with a shot from the top of the right circle with his 1st of the post season. Assists to Ryley Lindgren and Cory Millette at 18:04 and it was 3-2 Regina. The Canes continued to press after that but the Pats held on for the 3-2 game 3 victory and went up in the series 2-1.
