The Regina Pats got 32 saves from Tyler Brown and beat the Lethbridge Hurricanes in game 4 at the Brandt Centre 2-0 to take a 3-1 series lead.
In the first period the Canes got off to another good start thanks to an early powerplay. The Pats killed it off however and then got a powerplay of their own but almost gave up a shorthanded goal. Giorgio Estephan skated in on a breakaway but Tyler Brown stopped him with the left skate to keep the game scoreless. The Canes got a second powerplay in the frame but again the Pats killed it off and then in the final minute opened the scoring. Sam Steel forced a turnover and centred for Cole Sanford who beat Jayden Sittler 5-hole for his 2nd of the playoffs at 19:12 and it was 1-0. That was the score after 1 with the Hurricanes leading on the shot clock 14-8.
In the second the Pats were the aggressors and put 14 shots on goal. Austin Wagner had a breakaway late but just put it over top the net. Connor Hobbs also hit the crossbar in the frame but the Pats lead remained 1-0. The Hurricanes had the periods lone man advantage which the Pats killed off and through 40 minutes the Pats still led by a goal. Regina outshot the Canes 14-7 in the period and led 22-21 overall.
In the third the Pats clamped things down. the Hurricanes did manage some chances but Tyler Brown shut the door. The game stayed 1-0 until late when the Hurricanes pulled Sittler for the extra attacker. Adam Brooks then took a puck in his own right circle and scored from about 180 feet away for his 4th of the playoffs, unassisted at 18:48 and it was 2-0. The Pats killed the clock form there and took a commanding 3-1 series lead heading into game 5. The Canes outshot the Pats 11-4 in the period and led overall 32-26.
The Pats powerplay was oh for 1 in the game and the penalty kill was 3 for 3.
The third star of the game went to the Pats Sam Steel who had as assist in the win. The second star to the Hurricanes Jayden Sittler who stopped 24 of 25 shots faced and the first star to the Pats Tyler Brown who stopped all 32 shots he faced for his second shutout of the series.
The Pats will hit the road for game 5 in Lethbridge Friday night at 7 o’clock on 620 CKRM.
