It’s been 16 months since fire destroyed an apartment complex in the former Queen Victoria hospital on Assiniboia avenue in Yorkton, and city RCMP continue investigating.
The cause has not been determined, but officials believe it’s suspicious.
The blaze was reported in the 85-year old building the evening of December 2nd, 2014, and all residents escaped unharmed.
The site has since been cleared.
The building was originally the Queen Victoria Hospital.
The older part of the building was built in 1902 after a typhoid outbreak in the region.
The mayor then lobbied for a local hospital for the area.
Running water was installed in 1905, electricity in 1910 and a nurses residence was added in 1929.
The land was also the site of the original cemetery, but those graves were later moved to the Yorkton City Cemetery.
