The Regina Pats jumped out to a big 5-1 lead in game 4 and held on for a 6-4 victory over the Red Deer Rebels, tieing the best of seven series 2-2.
In the first period both teams had some really good early chances but both Tyler Brown and Trevor Martin made some big stops to keep the game tied. The Pats were afforded the first powerplay but did not score and then the Rebels were able to open the scoring. Austin Stand buried a rebound in the slot for his 1st at 13:13. An unassisted marker and it was 1-0. The Rebels got into some penalty trouble after that and gave the Pats 28 seconds up 5 on 3. Connor Hobbs tied the game when he jammed in a puck in the crease for his 3rd with assists to Lane Zablocki and Adam Brooks at 17:18 and it was 1-1. On the remining 5 on 4 poweprlay the Pats took the lead with their 9th PP goal of the series. Connor Hobbs beat Martin through a screen for his second of the night, 4th of the playoffs from Colby Williams and Adam Brooks at 18:42 and it was 2-1. That was the score after 20 minutes with the Rebels leading on the shot clock 16-12.
In the second the Pats extended their lead to 3-1 when Luc Smith buried a rebound for his 1st career playoff goal at 4:05. Sam Steel and Sean Richards the helpers. Then the Pats powerplay went back to work and made it 4-1 at 12:18. Lane Zablocki jammed in his 4th from Chase Harrison. That was it for Trevor Martin in goal, he was replaced by Rylan Toth who returned to the ice for the first time since February 17th. Lane Zablocki scored again at 17:07, again with the man advantage again from Chase Harrison to makr it a 5-1 Regina lead. The Rebels got one back with 23 seconds left in the frame when Luke Philp jammed one across the goalline for his 2nd to make it 5-2 at 19:37. That was the score after 40 minutes with the Pats outshooting Red Deer 14-13 in the period but trailed 29-26 overall.
In the third the Rebels got within 2 when Nelson Nogier ripped a snap shot from the right circle into the top corner for his 2nd from Jake DeBrusk and Grayson Pawlenchuk at 4:06 and it 5-3. Then with a powerplay at the midway point Red Deer got it to 5-4 when Luke Philp jammed in his second of the night. 3rd of the playoffs from Jake DeBrusk and Adam Helewka at 10:38 and it was 5-4. The Pats held on for dear life after that until late when the Rebels pulled Toth for the extra attacker. That’s when Cole Sanford buried his 6th into the empty cage with assists to Jake Leschyshyn and Sam Steel at 18:42 and it was 6-4 and that was the final score. The Rebels outshot Regina 19-7 in the third and 48-33 overall. The series sits tied 2-2.
The Pats powerplay was 4 for 6 on the powerplay and the penalty kill was 1 for 2.
The third star of the game went to the Pats Tyler Brown who made 44 saves in the win. The second star to the Rebels Luke Philp who scored twice in the win and the first star to the Pats Lane Zablovki who had two goals and an assist.
The Pats visit the Rebels in game 5 on Friday night at 7 o’clock on 620 CKRM. Tickets for game 6 on Sunday at 4 PM the Brandt Centre will go on sale at noon Saturday at ticketmaster.ca and the Brandt Centre Box Office.
