The Regina Thunder will be holding a practice at Mosaic Stadium on Saturday afternoon, and they are hoping to see many Reginans take it in and perhaps help a young child as well.
Six-year old Vonn Chorneyko has a very rare blood disease and will at some point need a bone marrow transplant.
When the Thunder heard about the boy’s plight, they decided to help out by teaming up with a group called “One Match” who put potential donors on a registry.
The story has even reached Saskatchewan’s Jon Ryan (who plays for the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks) who tweeted Saturday:
After practice, the entire team will be “swabbed” with hopes that those coming out to the practice will also sign up.
Vonn’s mother Ashley is touched to see the Thunder helping out like this and hopes perhaps a donor can be found to help her son or anyone else in need.
The practice goes from 2-4 Saturday at the stadium, with the players getting “swabbed” around 430.
