Reduce. Recycle. Reuse. Let’s add: Re-purpose, Re-Imagine!
Happy Earth Day!
The City of Regina and your community, probably have blue boxes. Our communities try to help you with changing habits to keep stuff out of the landfill and fields (which seem to serve as unwanted dumping grounds).
Do you need assistance? Are you unaware of recycling programs that are part of the Canadian fabric; check out the federal website and see the world it can open up for you. We all need a hand from time to time.
How about going as far as creating something new for your yard, the acreage or farm? Who doesn’t love digging in the dirt? Make that soil you actually helped create. Composting! It may seem like a big deal, but with the help of free webinars away you got!
In the 70’s schools were involved in probably the beginning of the Recycling Program that was started in the U.S. I can recall that we had lots of neat things presented to us and that we did our best to implement the ideology of “Earth Day”.
Today, I recycle, re-use and then try to re-imagine what I have. Also important is to take the things you have and send them down the line. That is, when the time is right.
Here’s a neat example! Look through the linens; old sheets, blankets, towels and face-clothes are gold to the Regina Humane Society. That is just a small sample of the things they love to re-imagine!
On Earth Day weekend, think of what you can do that doesn’t require you to go to the landfill.
You might be surprised what treasures you hold. What treasures others would love to have and use!
