As a member of the Downtowners Optimist Club, we are asked to canvass for the Canadian Cancer Society and this is the month to get out there and knock on doors.
Suddenly, I realize, the hour she’s getting late! Saturday I decided I would go out and get it DONE! Deep down I knew nobody would be home!
Guess what, I was right!
Ten homes in I realized I was dressed too lightly for the strong winds and no one was at home.
That’s a lie! I did catch four people. And we exchanged pleasantries and some information on how to help out the Cancer Society. And they always pointed out, “gee isn’t it kind of cold for bare legs” … I was wearing shorts!!
I will attempt to get back to Houston Road in Regina tonight – so if you’re watching the Blackhawks vs Blues game, at least answer the door so I can say “HI!”.
Just a reminder, whether you give or not, is totally your call. I know each and everyone of you has the causes you believe in. So many people are battling cancer these days and each distinct type of cancer or sub-category has their own fundraising initiative. Truly, it’s scary stuff.
Currently, I have 3 friends that come to mind that are battling cancer. They are going through treatment that is extreme and at time the outlook does not look hopeful. Will your contribution make a difference? One has to believe that it will.
Researchers make strides to extend quality of life and cures for this disease that manifests in so many ways.
I’m sure that my other Optimist members have had success, I’m hoping that someone along my travels early this week will offer to help out our canvassing drive for the Canadian Cancer Society.
In turn, I hope that the Canadian Cancer Society makes some major strides to knock cancer back not just a step or two but help cure what has become the major killer of Canadians.
