An alleged domestic violence incident at his home has resulted in Saskatchewan Roughriders defensive lineman Tearrius George to announce his retirement
The release from the Riders came out shortly before Regina police announced the 33 year old had been charged with assault and will be in court to make his first appearance on the matter May 12.
Speaking with the media in a conference call, Head Coach and General Manager Chris Jones would not say much because the matter is before the courts, but he did say the decision to retire came from George and not the football club. He adds the club doesn’t know a lot about what has happened and says the information will come out in court.
Jones added he did not know if George would some day return to the football team once the matter had been dealt with saying that is up to George.
In a statement from the football club, George said he is stepping away from the game to focus on a personal issue and that he is asking people to respect his family’s privacy at this time.
