Smoke is very dense around the city of Fort McMurray, Alberta.
A wildfire raging in the northern community has destroyed 80-percent of the homes in one neighbourhood and extensively damaged property in a number of others.
The entire city of 80-thousand people is under an evacuation order — some heading south to Edmonton while others drove north where oilsands companies have opened their work camps to evacuees.
Firefighters are trying to maintain crucial infrastructure in the city, including the only bridge across the Athabasca River and Highway 63, the only route to the city from the south.
Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale says he’s watching the situation with great concern and the federal government is standing by to provide help.
