This rain we’ve had for a couple of days now has been a blessing for the Lewis household. As I mentioned in my blog a couple of days ago, my wife and I put down a couple of yards of topsoil and planted some new grass around our deck to spruce things up. I planned it perfectly. Dirt down, grass down, rain down. Everything fell into place. There was one thing I hadn’t counted on that should have been at the top of my list…the dog.
Sunday night when after putting the grass seed down and wetting the soil, the dog was quite interested in what went on and was walking all over the newly soiled area. I kept telling him to get off, but he didn’t seem to get it. Neither did I. We have a yard full of grass. Why wouldn’t he want to play on that instead of a bunch of wet dirt? My wife came up with a great idea. Line up the lawn chairs around the deck and leave Max one path out to the yard. I figured that once he was out in the yard he would play and do his business on the grass. Nope.
Yesterdays rain was beautiful. Just what our grass seed needed. The problem was, the dog just wouldn’t stay off of it. He was running around on the dirt like a madman. Whenever he took off running he would kick up mud, leaving a huge divot. Then he would slam on the brakes with his two front paws pushing up more dirt than a bulldozer, leaving even larger divots. This is turning out to be a bigger pain in the rear end than I had anticipated.
Today I’ll try to figure out how to get a temporary fence up so the area that is seeded can proceed to grow without being disturbed.
Short of that, anyone looking to babysit a dog for about 3 weeks?
