Golf’s unofficial major started Thursday in Ponte Vedra, Florida at the famed Sawgrass course as the Players Championship got underway.
Weyburn’s Graham DeLaet was one of the first golfers on the course, and he had a 2 under par 70 in a round which consisted of 5 birdies and three bogeys. One of those birdies was on perhaps the game’s most photographed hole—the par 3 with the island green.
DeLaet went into the event having played in 14 tournaments this year making the cut in 11 of them and producing two top 10 finishes. He has won just under 770-thousand dollars.
