There may be plenty of anticipation and excitement for the unveiling of the Saskatchewan Legislature Dome Monday, however, politicians are also preparing to get back to work.
First, is the swearing-in ceremony of government MLAs which takes place at 12:00 noon on Monday in the Legislative Assembly.
The First Session of the Twenty-Eighth Legislature will open on Tuesday, May 17.
At 10:00 a.m., the Assembly will meet to elect a Speaker.
In Saskatchewan, the position of Speaker is open to any MLA except cabinet ministers or an opposition leader.
There are three candidates:
- Mr. Gregory Brkich, MLA for Arm River;
- Mr. Dan D’Autremont, MLA for Cannington; and
- Mr. Corey Tochor, MLA for Saskatoon Eastview.
Her Honour the Lieutenant Governor will deliver the Speech from the Throne at 2:00 p.m.
For the first legislative session after an election, the scheduling of the Assembly is at the discretion of the government.
