A cattle auctioneer at Saskatoon Livestock Sales has won the national auctioneering championship at the Livestock Markets Association of Canada convention in Brussels, Ontario.
Ryan Hurlburt placed first in a field of 29 competitors from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec. A panel of six judges graded participants on chant, rhythm, voice clarity, control and professionalism.
The 29-year-old is relatively young by livestock auctioneer standards. He has spent time honing his craft at P-B-R Saskatoon, as well as cattle auction marts in Prince Albert and Yorkton before being hired at Saskatoon Livestock Sales last year.
Hurlburt’s next event will be an international auctioneering competition at the Calgary Stampede.
