The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations has decided to change its name.
The organization is now to be known as the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations.
Leaders of the group voted to make the change at the federation’s spring assembly being held this year in North Battleford.
The federation has been considering the name change for a few years.
In 2013 chiefs said the new name would better reflect the nature of First Nations and that their lands transcend provincial boundaries.
The federation represents 74 First Nations in Saskatchewan.
