Saskatchewan Finance Minister Kevin Doherty says he usually wears black shoes, but plans to sport a new pair of tan shoes when he hands down the budget Wednesday – and they are a little tight.
Showing off new shoes has become a tradition for finance ministers ahead of budgets.
Doherty says the shoes are a sign of the transformational change coming in the budget, which will mark the beginning of a review of all revenue and spending.
Premier Brad Wall has said the deficit could be higher than the $259 million that was forecast in February and that the province faces a $1 billion shortfall in resource revenue.
The Opposition NDP says Doherty is going to have all kinds of holes to fill in the budget.
New Democrat finance critic Cathy Sproule says that’s why they have a shoe repair kit for Doherty.
