Premier Brad Wall is defending a decision to scrap balanced budget legislation.
The NDP is critical of the proposal, saying the Wall government has wasted billions of dollars and put the province into a 434 million dollar deficit.
Wall says his government has paid off NDP debt, reduced taxes by six billion dollars and spent eight billion on infrastructure projects.
He adds the old legislation is out of date and outlived its usefulness.
Wall says the province has gone to summary budgeting as requested by the NDP and new legislation will reflect it.
