The Heart and Stroke Foundation’s 2016 Strike Report has been released and it is showing a link between stroke and dementia.
Thomas Stewart, with the Stroke Prevention Clinic at the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region said, the link is coming from “covert strokes”.
A Covert stroke is a stroke where the person is unaware it is happening.
In a poll commissioned by the Heart and Stroke Foundation, it found less than half of Canadians know what a stroke is and fewer than one third understand what dementia is.
More than a quarter of those asked mistakenly think dementia is a normal sign of aging.
