Police say 50 people were killed in a mass shooting at gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida.
Another 53 people are in hospital.
The gunman opened fire at around 2 a-m Sunday morning, and held hostages for about three hours before a SWAT team entered the building.
Police say the shooter — identified as Omar Mateen of Port St. Lucie, Florida — used was armed with an assault rifle, a handgun and some type of suspicious device.
He was killed in a gunfight with SWAT officers who had entered the building to rescue the hostages.
Medical officials say they expect the death toll to rise.
