For those of us who took in the Rider game on Saturday night, it turned out to be an eventful evening to kick off the final year for Mosaic Stadium.
My wife and I don’t usually go to Rider games, but once or twice a year her boss graciously gives up his four box seats for us and a couple of friends. When you sit in a enclosed box with free food and drinks, it’s funny, friends are easy to find! Unfortunately for the friends that joined us at the game, they couldn’t be with us in the box for the entire game. They were stuck in an elevator for more than an hour.
My wife and I decided to beat the rush downstairs for halftime to find someone selling 50/50 tickets. Usually those ticket sellers are all over the place, including up in the box, but I had a hard time finding anyone to take my money that night. While we were downstairs running around the lights went out for a few seconds before a backup generator kicked in. Hey, no big deal. I thought things would be up and running in short order. A power outage wasn’t going to deter me, but I couldn’t find a ticket seller for the life of me.
My wife then got a text from the friends that came to the game with us. They were in the elevator…stuck! The elevator wasn’t going anywhere and neither were they. We stood by the elevator door for a good 15 minutes before a nice young lady came up and asked if anyone wanted to follow her up the stairs back to the box. I’m not in the best of shape, but we took her up on her offer. I thought I’d rather be sitting upstairs with a cold beer and a plate of chicken wings than standing around an elevator that might or might not be working anytime soon. This lady was hightailing it up the stands and, to be honest, some of us were having a hard time keeping up with her. We eventually made it up there, huffing and puffing all the way.
When we got back to the box a couple of the girls came up to me letting me know that the 50/50 ticket guy had finally made it up to where we were sitting. By that point I had actually forgotten all about those darn tickets. I grabbed some tickets and we settled into our seats and waited for the power to be restored and our friends to make it out of the elevator. We were up there a good 45 minutes before everything returned to normal and our friends returned to their seats.
All in all it was a great evening!
A little adventure never hurt anyone, right?
