The NDP is alarmed by the rising debt load at SaskPower.
Opposition leader Trent Wotherspoon says SaskParty mismanagement has led to the power company debt-load reaching very high levels.
He says the debt is about to break the law, so new legislation is being written to enable a debt of ten billion dollars.
But SaskPower minister Bill Boyd says SaskPower’s debt load results from efforts to ensure power supply for a substantial growth in demand.
He says SaskPower expects an additional 82 thousand customers in the future.
Boyd says the needed infrastructure funding for SaskPower was short-changed while the NDP was in power for 16 years.
