I haven’t seen a doctor in over a year now since my “Doc” moved on to a different position within the health board here in Saskatchewan. For over 17 years I had a great doctor – patient relationship, but to be honest, I don’t mind that I am without a doctor………because you see it was almost like a revolving door experience with my doctor as he was always passing me around to specialists all the time. The funny thing was that during my last physical he told me I was as healthy as a horse !! (broken down mule maybe). Lungs /heart/ respiratory system/blood work/pressure….everything is fantastic!. Then why all the appointments? and handing me off to the specialists.
People used to consult doctors only when they were sick. The routine annual physical originated in the 1940’s. The idea was that if healthy people with no symptoms saw a doctor every year, diseases could be detected early and treated before they could cause any harm. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Times have changed. many are saying that annual physicals are wasteful and lead to over-diagnosis

any thoughts on this?
