The Regina Humane Society decided to start a weekend adoption event early because there were so many cats in the shelter, and it would appear the plan has worked.
Spokesperson Bill Thorn says an influx of cats and kittens put them at overcapacity so a decision to start the event on Wednesday was made with over 50 cats finding a new home in the first two days.
Cost of an adult cat (6 months and over) adoption is free with kittens going for just 50 dollars.
That adoption includes spay/neuter surgery, tattoo, microchip and other services.
The Humane Society is open this weekend from noon until 5 both Saturday and Sunday with the aim being to get as many cats and kittens to a new home as they can.
