The Regina Open Door Society celebrated 2016 World Refugee Day in the City Square Monday afternoon.
The event has been held in the Queen City for the last 15 years.
Darcy Dietrich, Executive Director of the Regina Open Door Society says it’s an important day. “Sadly the number of refugees worldwide seems to grow every year but every year we like to touch base with our community and inform them of the world refugee situation and as well we need people to understand refugees are just like you and just like me.”
Dietrich says this year is special considering the number of Syrian refugees which have made their way to Canada. The Open Door Society has settled in 600 refugees so far this year, up from the normal 250 in an entire year.
