K + S Potash Canada says construction of the Legacy mine near Bethune is nearing completion with commissioning of the mine expected for the end of August.
The first tonne of Potash is scheduled to be produced by the end of the year.
Construction started in June 2012, for the first new potash mine in Saskatchewan in over forty years.
The company says twenty underground caverns, in which potash ore is dissolved, are developed and ready to provide potash-rich brine to the production facility at start-up.
About 90 per-cent of the total budget of 4.1 billion dollars has been invested.
The mine is currently the largest job creator in Saskatchewan, providing 45 hundred construction jobs.
Once in production, the mine is expected to produce two million tonnes of potash a year, ramping up to 2.86 million tonnes in future years.
