The Living Flag event on Canada day is going to be bigger – and according to officials – even better this year.
The Provincial Capital Commission says it is expanding the event because of the overwhelming popularity of the event last year.
Last year, the first 500 individuals to come down to the Legislative building grounds to form the Living Flag were provided with a complimentary red or white t-shirt.
This year, more than 1000 t-shirts will be available for those that show up at 1 p.m. to participate on the west lawn in front of the Legislative Building.
An aerial photograph will be taken of the Living Flag and shared on partner websites and social media pages.
The Canada Day opening ceremonies will take place at noon on the main stage across from the Legislative Building and will include a 21 gun salute and greetings from local dignitaries.
There will be a variety of entertainment for all audiences in Wascana Park organized by the Regina Canada Day Committee.
Fireworks will be set off from Willow Island in Wascana Park starting at 10:30 p.m., dependent on sunset and weather.
The Living Flag initiative began last year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Canadian flag.
