In 2013, 65 per cent of students were reading a grade level, that is up to 73 per cent in 2015.
Liam Choo-Foo, leader of the provincial reading initiative says teachers have really stepped up.
“We’ve seen that there’s now eight per cent more kids across the province reading at grade level then there were when we had our baseline data two years ago,” Choo-Foo said.
“I think the teachers’ in the province have met the challenge and they’re doing great work in the classrooms.”
The goal is to have 80 per cent of grade three students reading at grade level by 2020.
