He was once described as the Conservative minister for Twitter but now Tony Clement is setting his sights on the prime minister’s chair.
The MP and former cabinet minister has officially launched his campaign to seek the leadership of the federal Tories.
Clement was an early adopter of social media tools and pushed hard for the former Conservative government to follow his lead.
He says his savviness with social media, as well as his personal and political past, make him a leader who represents both experience and innovation.
Clement served as president of the Treasury Board while in government, leading a cost-cutting exercise that shaved billions off the government’s bottom line.
But he’s also found himself in hot water over government spending in his own riding in particular over a gazebo that was financed with legacy money from the G8 summit.
