It will be a nostalgic weekend in Regina as the Saskatchewan Roughriders remember the first team to bring the Grey Cup home—the 1966 team.
50 years after winning the CFL championship for the first time, many players will be on hand to be sign autographs and get saluted by the Rider Nation.
George Reed still has fond memories of that November afternoon in Vancouver when the Riders beat Ottawa 29-14. He says the team was quite nervous heading into the game, but those nerves settled down when Jack Abendschan slipped and fell before the contest started.
Reed adds while the win was sweet for the team, they all knew how much the victory meant for the people of Saskatchewan.
16 members of the team will take part in an autograph signing from noon-130 at the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame Saturday with another autograph session happening at the practice field starting at 5.
The group will be front and centre at half-time of Saturday’s game when they are introduced to the crowd in a ceremony.
