Here it is, another Monday morning and another Craven is now in the books. This year seemed to be one of the smoothest ones I’ve worked. It’s funny how everything falls in to place when the weather cooperates. Yesterday looked like we might have been in for a downpour or two, but by the time Eric Church hit the stage at 8:30, it was beautiful. A couple drops is all we had all day.
Every performer I chatted to was friendly and gracious with their time. I had a chance to meet and interview the Canadian duo Petric on Friday. These brothers are great guys with strong family ties. Mom manages the duo while dad loaned them his truck to make it to the show. Thanks dad!
One singer that I would have loved to interview, but didn’t get a chance to, was Kacey Musgraves. When she pulled up backstage on Friday she went straight to the stage to do a sound check. Evans and I went to the front of the stage to catch her do a couple of songs to make sure all would be well for her performance. One of the most beautiful voices I’ve heard in a long time! Hands down the best looking female performer all weekend.
Nicest guy of the weekend? That award went to Steven Lee Olsen. As soon as his van pulled up backstage he was out the door introducing himself to a group of us who were settled in and having the usual mindless backstage conversation. I interviewed him for the Jumbotron and then got him to come on air with me during Ray Allan’s show. Funny and a great personality. Plus add on the fact that he’s a great songwriter and performer, it’s not hard to tell his star is on the rise. He wrote Keith Urban’s next radio single, which he performed on stage yesterday. Sounds like it could be a big hit for Keith.
I got home last night at around 9 and was ready for bed. It’s funny how someone can get so tired from sitting around not doing much more than talking into a microphone! It’s definitely a fun way to get tired.
To Kim and the crew, thanks for everything. Job well done. We’ll see you next year!
