An inmate in the medium-security unit at Saskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince Albert has died.
In a release, the Correctional Service Canada says 31-year old Joseph Vincent Manitopyes was found unresponsive in his cell on Tuesday night.
He was pronounced dead at Victoria Hospital.
Manitopyes was serving a five-year, seven-month sentence for various charges, including attempted robbery, disguise with intent, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
He was declared a long-term offender in June 2014 after he was convicted alongside another man in a string of 2010 robberies in Regina.
The Correctional Service of Canada is investigating the death.
