A new wastewater treatment system which is the first of its kind in Canada is in Saskatchewan
Living Sky Water Solutions has implemented the system in Kerrobert – it was originally created by an Australian company.
The system takes water from the wastewater lagoon in any municipality and runs it through a filtering system, separating waste from water, so the water can be used for irrigation or returned to the water system.
The process can take under an hour, in most cases.
Living Sky CEO Ryan Van Dijk says Kerrobert is the perfect size for a first time use of this model.
Van Dijk says the system can scale to bigger cities like Saskatoon or Toronto, but the company hasn’t tried that yet.
Living Sky conducted a pilot project of the system near Pilot Butte in 2013-14.
