This morning as I was lying in bed praying to myself that I won the lottery on Friday and just forgotten about it, I listened to the rain coming down at what sounded like a steady pace. After lying there for a couple of minutes I realized that, not only was it raining quite heavily, I also failed to win the lottery and therefore, would actually have to come back to work.
During my drive in I noticed the sewer in front of our house wasn’t the only one having trouble keeping up with the rain. There was even one street I noticed that looked like the water was up to the bumpers of vehicles park outside their homes. All the way to work I kept hoping to myself that the Albert St. underpass at Sask. Dr. was going to be okay. Whenever it rains like it did this morning, the underpasses in the city seem to fare the worst.
As I headed south on Albert I noticed there were a couple of vehicles in front of me that were heading straight to the underpass. Great! I had my guinea pigs! One vehicle was a big truck while the other was a very small car. Perfect. My SUV was right in between those in size. If they both made it, I would as well!
I watched and paid close attention. The truck went through no problem. There seemed to be at least a couple of feet of water, which made it up to right under the door of his truck. I sat there watching as the little car went through what must have seemed like an ocean to the driver. The water was at least half a foot above the bottom door line of the car, but he made it! Nobody was more surprised than the driver was!
I decided to take a shot. I remember many videos on the news showing a vehicle stuck in the water at an underpass thinking, “what in the hell was that idiot thinking?” I didn’t want to be that idiot! It turned out I wasn’t, at least for that reason! I made it no problem!
It definitely was an interesting drive on my way back to work!
